News and Important things!

In the rearview mirror:
Short summary of the run: We had a bit of bad luck with several shifts lost due to accelerator problems, radiation security problems and so on... In the time we had beam, we measured:

12C+CH4 (2+1 h, different calibrations, different gains: ca 5000 evts)
10C+CH4 (about 10h, ca 10000 evts)
9C+CH4 (about 15h, ca 3000 evts)
9C+CO2 (about 5h, ca 300 evts)

primary beam intensity 12C (75 MeV/u) 2.5-3 µA
approximate secondary beam intensities in D6 (using SISSI target)
10C 50000-60000 /s
9C 5000-10000 /s

The telescope detectors performed well and we have a good DeltaE-E separation. The timing that was planned be provided by a multichannel plate did not work, so in order to separate the beta delayed protons from 9C we used a 100µm Si detector inside the chamber, at the foil window. This seems to have worked OK.

In all, there should be some output from the run, both concerning 11N and 10N. But any result we get is thanks to all the input from everyone - so again, thanks to all collaborators who worked before, during and after the run!

Karin

Financial support is granted from the EU large scale facilities budget for everyone except the CERN guys... Schwitzerland is still not an associated EU country.

Due to problems with the C01 cyclotron, E252a is shifted into the next block, meaning that the scheduling is now 17-23/10!!!!

Don't forget to make sure that you have valid medical certificates! This is necessary to get film badges! "Valid" means less than 6 months old. So, what you have to do is the following:
Get your medical certificate and fax it to V. Vandevoorde together with an explanation that you need a film badge for the experiment E252a: at least one week before the experiment!! If you have questions, the email address to V. Vandevoorde is vandevoordel@ganil.fr
         Fax number: +33-2-31-45 46 65
         Attention of: V. Vandevoorde

Participant list

2000-09-05: The rooms are booked for the period in the "dates" column and the reservations are now confirmed!

If nothing else is noted, the rooms at the Guest House are booked for the same period as your stay as put in column three. If you want to change your reservations, you can either send an email to: accueil@ganil.fr (send a copy to me so I know when to expect you!) ,or mail me and I'll do it for you.

Time planning

This is a very rough planning which can change - and probably will ;0)
We will run this experiment with 3-4 delta-E - E telescopes in the chamber (depending on how many good detectors we find), one situated at 0 degrees (lab system) and the others at angles.
We will use a 12C primary beam at 75 MeV/u, and produce the secondary 9,10C beams on a C target in SISSI. The scattering chamber will be sent from Chalmers, and set up in cave D6 with gastubes and vacuum pumps outside the cave. The acromatic degrader in LISE will be used together with the Wien filter to get as pure a beam as possible.

Date Beam Time Measurement
10/10 - 16/10 no beam 5 days Set up of scattering chamber in D6, electronics, testing and setup of detectors. Energy calibration with an alpha-source, time calibrations, DAQ-checking.
17/10 from 14:00 12C 16 h On CH4 to get 13N, and CO2 to see the background. Check of setup, calibrations, background.
18/10 morning (10C) 8 h Change beam to 10C. Optimizing beam, transmission, intensity, checking gas presure in chamber.
18/10 - 20/10 10C 30-40 h Data taking on CH4 to get in particular the higher energies of the 11N spectrum (maybe also CO2)
20/10 (9C) 8 h Change beam to 9C. Optimizing beam, transmission, intensity, checking gas presure in chamber.
20/10 - 23/10 to 14:00 9C 60-70 h Data taking on CH4 to get the 10N spectrum (maybe also CO2)
23/10 - 24/10 no beam 2 days Taking down of experimental setup
