Fibre channel aspherical monochromicity

Also known as 'fibrechannel aspherical monochromousity' (the Register).

A problem in the physical layer of the fibre channel media (force field). The connectors become Amoeba-shaped and any signals on optical links go black-and-white, causing total loss of connectivity.

The effect has not been seen in the field yet (except the above-mentioned reference) - reports with photos welcome.
