PostScript Printer Driver AdobePS 4.3.1 for Windows 95 and Windows 98 -- English

The Adobe PostScript printer driver (AdobePS) enables you to print documents from any Windows 95 or Windows 98 application to a PostScript printer. AdobePS provides several features not found in the standard Windows 95 or Windows 98 PostScript driver, such as watermark printing with localized text, additional n-up options, better support for printing the "euro" (European currency character), and greater support for many popular applications. AdobePS drivers include full support for Adobe PostScript Level 3 fonts, in addition to PostScript Level 1 and Level 2 fonts. AdobePS 4.3.1 provides full support for Windows 98 -- including Windows 98 Image Color Matching 2.0, full sRGB color support with Office97, and conversion of sRGB input profiles into CRDs (Color Rendering Dictionaries) for Windows 98.

AdobePS 4.3.1 is a new release and now has a localized version for Windows 95 and 98 Japanese. AdobePS 4.3.1 enables Adobe Acrobat 4.0 to search for TrueType text; allows users to override application settings for Image Color Matching processing; provides an easy-to-use, InstallShield-based installer; provides support for printing the Euro character currency symbol for printers; and supports remote printing to WebReady printers connected to the internet. Finally, AdobePS 4.3.1 provides easy access to Adobe's Web site via Adobe Online.

Adobe recommends using this driver only with PostScript Level 2 and Level 3 devices. To determine a device's PostScript Level, refer to the documentation included with it or contact the manufacturer. If you have a PostScript Level 1 device, you can use the Microsoft PostScript printer driver included with Windows.

System Requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 (English language versions only)
  • Any printer that includes Adobe PostScript Level 2 or Adobe PostScript 3
  • A PostScript Printer Description (PPD) file for your printer

Installation Instructions
After downloading a ".exe" file in Windows, double-click on the ".exe" file to access the file's contents.

To install this driver, you must have a PostScript Printer Description (PPD) file for your printer.

You can get PPD files from the following sources:
-- A floppy disk that was included with your printer. If you cannot find this disk, contact your printer manufacturer for a replacement.
-- The printer manufacturer's Web site or FTP site.
-- Adobe's online services such as the Adobe Web site.

NOTE: Adobe redistributes a number of PPD files for Mac OS and Windows as a courtesy to Adobe customers but does not guarantee to have the PPD file you need.

-- Your service bureau or print shop.

Your printer manufacturer is ultimately responsible for providing you with a PPD file. Neither Adobe nor your service provider is obligated to provide you with a PPD file.

Installation Warning

If you are using the Microsoft Client for Netware Networks with Windows 98, you must first disconnect any network drives before adding a new printer. If you do not, you may experience a failure in a system program called Mprexe.exe or your system may stop responding during the installation. This problem does not occur when using Novell Client for Netware or when no drives are currently connected to Novell servers using the Microsoft Client. To disconnect a drive, right-click on that drive and choose Disconnect from the pop-up menu.

To install AdobePS 4.3.1:
1. Have your PPD file ready, either on a floppy disk or on your hard disk before you install AdobePS.
2. Exit from all applications.
3. Double-click the Aps43eng.exe file to begin the installation.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
