Ann-Marie Frykestig, Göteborg
The workshop has been supported by INTAS, and STINT.
Workshop content
The general subject of the workshop/school were nonequilibrium effects
in mesoscopic structures and possible application of these effects in supersensitive
systems.
The main topics of the workshop/school
Hot-Electron Microbolometers for ultrasensitive detection of IR and submillimeter
waves; other types of sensors.
Electron cooling by SIN tunnel junctions; the problem of nonequilibrium
quasiparticles in superconductors.
Cryogenics
SQUID readout system and imaging arrays of bolometers
Quasioptics and HF Filtering
Astronomical tasks in submm/IR regions
Development of a Submillimeter Cryogenic Telescope for the International
Space Station (Project Submillimetron)
Other astronomical projects. Possible international cooperation.

Universe;
high importance and fundamental meaning of astronomical sky survey in general,
and actuality of ELISA and Submillimetron surveys in this decade;
remarkable progress in techniques for space and/or low-temperature research:
submillimeter integrated receivers, sorption and electron coolers, low-noise
electronics, RF-filters;
progress in international cooperation: new scientific links with France,
Holland, Denmark, Germany, and Georgia.
The recommendations of the workshop
continuing and developing an international cooperation in the following
fields:
development of bolometer fabrication in IREE and MSU in addition to
regularly acting Chalmers center;
development of regularly acting measurement centres at DTU, Lyngby, in
cooperation with Tbilisi University and at Chalmers University for dc and
high frequency bolometer qualification;

for demonstration tests at balloon telescope (Chalmers);
installing SQUID readout system of IPHT, Jena at Chalmers for several month
of joint research in the field of noise of bolometer structures;
investigating a possibility of flight of the CNES gondola with balloon
