  Licentiate Course

Summary of the topic

My licentiate topic was about the preparation and characterization of magnetic garnet thin films using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique for magneto-optic (MO) applications, in addition to the possibility to a next generation MO recording media.  We were the first group to grow successfully Ce-substituted yttrium iron garnet (CexY3-xFe5O12) epitaxial films using the PLD technique. The large enhancement of MO effect found in the blue wavelength regime makes this material system promising as a next generation MO recording media.

  M.S. Course

Summary of the topic

The thesis for my M.S. was about the classical and quantum behavior of an electron at the half-infinite space with uniform electric and magnetic fields. With the help of classical results, we evaluated the propagator of this system with path integral method. It is found that the electron in this system moves quantum mechanically in one dimension (i.e. quantum wire ).

  B.S. Course

Summary of the topic :

For my B.S. thesis I and my co-author investigated how the term ''force'' was used in the high school physics textbooks. It was found that the ''force'' was used without any clear criterion between usual meaning and scientific meaning. The representation of a scientific term in the textbooks is very important for students to have right concept, because the scientific conception is found to be different from what students have in mind before they learn the physical meaning (preconception). This work was also published in the Bulletin of Science Education (Vol. 9:25 - 34, 1992).
