User support
In order to ease the burden of the system adminstrators that are responsible
for operating UNICC's equipment, we expect that UNICC users are familiar with
the UNIX environment and that they know how to compile programs and perform
basic debugging. If not, they should contact the local computer
support, or read one of many UNIX novice books that are available. Also note
that UNICC does not provide user support for any kind of software besides system
software (operating system and compilers.)
- If you have a question regarding the system software (OS, development
tools, queue system etc) , of if you want to report that something does not work
as it should, send e-mail to help@unicc.chalmers.se
- If you want to install a software package locally at unicorn, you should
talk to your local system administrator first. Licence costs are paid by the
users, and your group should elect a contact person which is responsible for the
user support.
- The HPDR lecturer Rumjana Chakarova may provide user support in the field
of parallel computing.
- Finally, don't forget to check out the software
pages and the latest news.
Courses of interest for UNICC users
SGI provides a
set of on-line
presentations about high-performance computing, computer graphics, chemistry
software and other areas. The presentations available may vary from time to
time.
- There is an
on-line
course in performance tuning available that is well worth study if you are
writing or porting programs to the Origin server. For those of you who followed
the courses above this material is also a good source of reference information.
Local copy (handy if the network
connection to SGI is slow)
- Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC) gives courses in MPI and HPF
programming. The course material is
available
on-line.
