Electromagnetic field, Week 3

We learn about magnetic fields in materials and cover Chapter 5 in book: "Magnetic Materials"

• Try to read chapter 5 before we have lectures.
• Also, in spirint, it will be very simillar to Dielectricts. Try to refresh yoursefl on those topics as well.
• Please note change in the shedule as we have agreed (exra lecture on Monday from 8:00-10:00 and extra problem solving class at Wednesday 8:00-10:00,  since lecture and problem solving class CANCELLED on Thursday. THANKS FOR HELPING ME WITH THE CHANGE, REALLY APPRECIATE IT!)

• As usual, we begin with "Do you have any questions about previous material, comments, etc.?"
• We talk about last week's test and discuss solutions (hardest problems)

• We start with Diamagnetism, Paramagnetism and Ferromagnetism ...

• Peter is going to discuss projects with you
• If there is time left we continue on Diamagnetism etc ...

• We will see how to relate magnetization vector M with surface currents (in electrostatics we realated induced surface charge to polarization vector P) and get i_s = curl M.

• We defined electrostatic equivalent of D, and call it H and derive Ampere's law for H
• We introduce relative Permeability \mu (equivalent of \epsilon in electrostatics)
• Summary of Magnetostatics
