Teacher Education in the Learning University

Seminar at the Physics Department 1998-09-18

Teacher Education at the Heart of the University?

Lärarutbildnignsnämnden (LUN) was created to emphasize the importance of teacher education to the whole of Göteborg University. Important assets of our teacher education are the dedicated students but also the connection to research possible at a large University.

However, many problems, external, as well as internal, influence the recruting and education of future teachers. Do we care? Is there anything to be done? GU is discussing a new Vision of teacher education. Realising that teacher education is in many ways our most important education, how can we, as scientists, contribute?

The image of science in society is to a fairly large extent shaped by science teachers. - What image and knowledge of science do we want the students to bring to the schools? What science should children learn in school? How can different educations share experiences and learn from each other? Bring your thoughts, ideas and questions about teacher education to the lunch seminar on the 18th september- and learn more about what it looks like today, and how it may change in the future.
