News
-
(16/10)
The two preceeding exams are now available: Exam05,
Exam06
-
(12/10)
We urge everyone of you to participate in the course evaluation. There
is a web interface at http://bohm.fy.chalmers.se/gufysik/questionnaire/?coursename=TIF015
-
(10/10)
The slided from Pers Liquid Crystals lecture will be handed out during
Thursdays lecture. Some references for more info is given here.
-
(2/10)
For those who are interested in diploma work regarding future materials
for energy applications e.g. batteries and fuel cells. There are some
available projects, using both experimental and computational
techniques, in the Condensed Matter Physics group. More information here
(svenska).

(17/9)
In the latest issue of Physical Review Letters (the highest impact
physics journal) there is an article that investigates the phase
diagram of protein solutions. Many of the concepts we have disussed are
used spinodal decomposition, glass
formation, creep compliance, G', G'' etc. It can be downloaded
within Chalmers here.
-
(17/9)
I will bring a list tomorrow where you can sign up for tutorials
regarding the project. There are some available times before (and
during) class tomorrow If they suit you just send us an email. The list
can be downloaded here.
-
10/9)
There are errors and missprints in Jones. Unfortunately I have not
collected them
before but have started to do so now. If you find any errors or
missprints please report them. My Errata for
Jones will for sure be updated as we work through the book.

(4/9)
The room for the lectures
on Tursdays are changed to the larger FL64
(around the corner from
todays lecture). Also worth noticing is that the slides for the first
two lectures are available on the work program page.
-
(4/9) the problems we
hopefully solve during problem solving classes are to be found here. If you have any suggestions we can change
the scope. The problems for the second and third class are likely to be
changed anyhow.
-
(3/7) The schedule is
now posted on the Work
program page. There will
be sessions every Tuesday (13:15-15:00) and Thursday (8:00-9:45) in
room N1665 (Origo north floor 6) and additional lunch seminars.
-
(9/6) The book will be
available at Cremona bookshop. If they run out it is also available on
the internet. You can compare prices here.
-
(9/6) On 18 may 2007
the french physisist Pierre-Gilles de Gennes died. He was the founder
of the term "soft matter" and recieved the nobel
price
in physics for his work on soft matter. de Gennes worked in many
different fields of soft matter and used "simple" models to predict and
explain many features in e.g. polymers and liquid crystals. You can
find his nobel lecture here and the obituary
in Nature.
-
(9/6) For the lecture
on glasses (13/9)
you will need some extra material consisting of a review article. Can
be downloaded from this location (works
only at Chalmers).
-
(9/6) A set of review
questions might be useful.
-
(9/6) welcome to the
home page of SMP 2007! This is were we will post any information or
files that you may need. This year we will have ten lectures, three
problem solving classes and four lunch seminars where you will be
served deluxe sandwiches.
